Vidium Spotlight #1: Amy Fallon Rowing The Atlantic For Last Oarders

Rowing 3,000 miles across the Atlantic — powered by resilience, trust and purpose
In the world of programmatic advertising, Amy Fallon is already well-known as a sharp operator. As a Programmatic Specialist at Vodafone, she leads day-to-day activation across both Vodafone Business and VOXI, its youth-focused brand. But it’s what she’s doing outside of office hours that’s truly extraordinary: Amy is preparing to row across the Atlantic Ocean.
The row is 3,000 miles, non-stop, from the Canary Islands to Antigua — just two people in a boat, rowing two hours on, two hours off, for up to 60 days straight. It’s a test of physical endurance, mental resilience, and pure determination. And for Amy, saying yes to it was instinctive. “I never considered that no was an option,” she says. A lifelong rower, having taken up the sport at age 11, Amy had always seen the Atlantic challenge as something she’d like to do “one day.” When her friend Stuart raised the idea over drinks, the decision was made within moments. “We just said we’re doing it — and that was that.” While the crossing itself captures people’s attention, Amy is quick to point out that the real challenge lies in everything leading up to it. “Getting to the start line is the hardest part,” she explains. Fundraising, boat logistics, sea survival training, radio licences, first aid, navigation, marine electrics — the list is endless. And it’s all squeezed in around full-time jobs, family commitments and day-to-day life. “There’s a huge amount of sacrifice involved, and it’s not just us — it’s our sponsors, our friends and families, and a whole support system making this happen.” One thing that’s surprised her is the community she’s discovered through the experience. “I didn’t realise how tight-knit and generous the ocean rowing world is,” she says. “Former rowers, race organisers, other teams — everyone shares advice, lessons, even fundraising tips. It’s competitive, sure, but it’s also deeply collaborative. We’re all rowing towards something bigger.”

Amy and her teammate Stuart are rowing in support of the Jon Egging Trust , a charity dedicated to helping young people overcome adversity and realize their potential through confidence-building and STEM-focused mentoring. To support their mission, you can donate directly via their GoFundMe page or explore sponsorship opportunities — including corporate packages — by following this Canva link. Every contribution helps them reach the start line and fund vital youth support programs across the UK.
For Amy and Stuart, the “why” behind the row is just as powerful as the feat itself. They’re raising funds for the Jon Egging Trust, a UK charity that supports school-age children who face significant life challenges — from low confidence to being carers at home — helping them build the skills and support networks to stay in education and thrive beyond it. “We want to show young people that with teamwork, communication and trust, you can take on things that seem impossible,” Amy explains. “It’s about personal growth, resilience, and proving to yourself what you’re capable of.” That mindset is something she’s developed over the past decade in her media career, too. Once shy and reluctant to speak up, Amy has built her confidence through experience, mentorship and feedback — becoming someone who now leads presentations with ease and clarity. “I used to hate the idea of speaking in front of people,” she says. “Now I know that in any room, I’m the expert in programmatic — and I’m confident in what I bring. And just as importantly, I’ve learned to say when I don’t know something. That’s confidence, too.” When things get tough — during a long training session, or after a long day at work when the sofa is calling — Amy comes back to what she can control. “It’s all about focusing your energy where it counts,” she says. “You can’t control the waves, or the weather, but you can control your mindset and your preparation. That applies at sea, and in the office.” She uses breathing exercises and mental check-ins to stay grounded, often breaking things down into manageable chunks and focusing on the next step. “It’s not about pretending it’s easy — it’s about staying present, staying focused, and not wasting energy on what you can’t influence.”

So, what would she say to someone thinking about taking on a bold or daunting challenge?

“Just go for it. You’re more capable than you think — but you only find that out when you try.”
